Big Bear Energy Services is looking for a hardworking, motivated, energetic, safety and customer service focused Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our crew.

We are looking to add an experienced member to our main office in Sylvan Lake Alberta to diagnose and troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components.

Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic

Big Bear Energy Services Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic IconThe Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems powering heavy duty, medium duty and stationary equipment. The Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic will report directly to the Shop Manager.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Servicing and maintaining skid steers, semi tractors, trailers, large water pumping equipment, heavy-duty equipment, track machines and ATVs
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, service, lubricate, repair, assemble and maintain units in a timely and effective manner
  • Keep informed of changes to industry standards
  • Mentor heavy duty mechanic apprentices and less experienced operators
  • Verify repairs and ensure they are completed and documented
  • Responsible for daily job communications and documentation
  • Maintain a safe and clear work environment
  • Follow Big Bear Energy Service’s Procedures and Policies
  • Ensure Big Bear Energy Service’s standards are being followed
  • Report daily to the Shop Manager

  • Strong knowledge of the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Knowledge and experience with wiring and ability to weld
  • Ability to read and understand equipment and vehicle repair manuals
  • Able to exert moderate to high physical effort for lifting heavy parts
  • Attention to detail: for equipment maintenance and daily documentation
  • Highly energetic, self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize with high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Able to work a variety of shits (shift-work, rotational, night-shift)
  • Experience servicing and maintaining automotive and light duty equipment
  • Able to work in a physically demanding environment and exposure to outdoor weather conditions
  • Safety oriented: Able to work safely and keep a clean work environment

  • Must have adequate tool selection for Heavy Duty Mechanic Trade
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize all job tasks
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Skilled in problem-solving techniques
  • Experience working in the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Able to perform role without direct supervision
  • Must be physically fit – heavy lifting required

Required Tickets
  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Certification required
  • Interprovincial Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Technician Certification would be considered an asset
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license, Class 1 or 3 would be considered an asset
